Project Overview
In 2019, we introduced the Transit Collection – this fall collection is a curated selection of lifestyle waist packs that seamlessly blend style and functionality. These accessory bags feature innovative elements such as integrated LED panels, a reflective power cord cinch system, and durable duck canvas materials. As the summer months transition into shorter days, this collection was inspired by our CHUMS customers, who are active and adventurous individuals seeking a bag that effortlessly bridges style and functionality.
Below is an overview of the stages that it took to bring this collection to life.
Trend, Market, and Color Research
Before drafting designs, the CHUMS Product Development team and I curated the season’s brand trend deck, presenting the assets to the leadership team for approval. Over the following weeks, we collaborated to finalize five styles for our Fall 2019 assortment.
A few key slides from the 2019 annual trend report are below for reference of the consumer market, color palette, materials and competitors page.
Initial Vision + Sketches
Understanding the technical aspects of product layers is just as crucial as creativity in making a product engaging, accessible, and feasible. Quick sketching of various configurations is an essential part of brainstorming new designs.
I produced multiple versions of each waist pack design and shared them with the CHUMS team for feedback. They swiftly chose their preferred designs, and we proceeded with those selections. Below are the pages selected for our Transit Collection.
Second Stage of Concept Sketches
Additional iterations of the initial waist packs selected from the product development and marketing teams. Below are the revised sketches of each bag. From here these sketches will be rendered in illustrator, patterned, each design will be prototyped to share with our vendor for sampling.
Vendor Files
Once the silhouette, details, and colors were selected. It was time to build-out each waist-pack into a techpack. Below is an example of Hi-Beam Round, techpack  in illustrator. These were reviewed by the product development team then sent to our vendors to sample.
Final Products
Super stylish, functional, with added be-seen details, it was rewarding to see our vision come to life during the rise of waist-packs and accessory bags in the outdoor market.
